Market outlook
Stable Outlook 7/10
Demand remains strong, but the base card has abundant supply and is exposed to the broader modern basketball-card market. Scarce parallels and top-grade examples are more likely to outperform the ordinary raw base version.
Next months. Over the next 3-6 months, the base version is likely to remain relatively stable with fluctuations around performance news, awards, playoffs, and grading-population increases. Premium parallels and graded 10 copies should retain stronger demand than raw base copies.
Long term. Over 1-3 years, values could rise materially if Wembanyama establishes himself as an MVP-level player or leads the Spurs deep into the playoffs. The abundant base supply should limit scarcity-driven appreciation, while low-population, numbered, and visually distinctive parallels have better long-term upside.
History
Victor Wembanyama is a French professional basketball player for the San Antonio Spurs. Selected first overall in the 2023 NBA Draft, he became one of the most anticipated basketball prospects ever because of his exceptional height, length, shooting ability, ball handling, and defensive versatility. The 2023-24 season was his NBA rookie season, making his officially licensed rookie cards highly significant to basketball collectors.

- Demand
- Very High
- Supply
- Abundant
- The standard Concourse #87 is a base rookie card with substantial production and is not scarce compared with numbered Select parallels.
- Select has many parallel versions, so the unmarked base card is generally less valuable than numbered, short-printed, or premium-color versions.
- Condition scarcity can still matter because high-grade copies with strong centering and clean surfaces are more difficult to find.
- Specific parallels such as Blue Cracked Ice, Scope, and Orange Flash have greater scarcity and should be evaluated separately from the base card.
Collector notes
Condition. Inspect centering, especially left-to-right alignment; corner sharpness; surface scratches; print lines; dimples; edge chipping; and flaws around the holographic or prismatic finish. Select cards can show surface defects, roller marks, and print lines that are difficult to see under ordinary lighting. For grading, use strong angled light and compare centering against grading-company standards.
Storage. Store the card in a clean penny sleeve inside a rigid top loader or semi-rigid grading submission holder. Use archival, acid-free materials, keep it away from heat, humidity, direct sunlight, and pressure, and store it upright in a low-humidity environment. Avoid repeatedly removing the card from its sleeve.
Authenticity. Confirm that the card matches the official 2023-24 Panini Select design, numbering, player image, team branding, finish, and stock. Check that the card is #87 and that any stated parallel name matches its color or pattern. Compare printing quality and dimensions with verified examples, inspect for trimming, recoloring, surface alteration, or counterfeit foil, and verify grading-company certification numbers directly when applicable. The base card should not be confused with separately numbered or colored parallels.
