Market outlook
Stable Outlook 6/10
The card has strong character demand, but the existence of a later reprint and the broad availability of raw copies keep prices from behaving like a highly scarce chase card. Prices are more likely to be supported by grading premiums and Luffy collector demand than by true scarcity.
Next months. Likely to remain stable with modest fluctuations tied to grading submissions, reprint availability, and broader One Piece TCG interest.
Long term. Over 1-3 years, the card should hold collectible value due to Luffy’s enduring popularity, but significant appreciation is more likely for high-grade copies than for raw copies.
History
Monkey D. Luffy is the protagonist of One Piece, created by Eiichiro Oda. He is the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates and one of the Four Emperors in later story arcs. In the One Piece Card Game, this card represents Luffy as a late-game Yellow character tied to life manipulation and removal, reflecting his central role as the series’ hero and the Straw Hat Crew’s leader.
This card was first released in the Japanese One Piece Card Game set '500 Years in the Future' (OP07), with a release date of 2024-06-28 for OP07-109. English-language copies of the same printing are associated with the English localization of the One Piece Card Game, and the card is listed as standard legal in the OP07 set line.[5][1]
- Card number OP07-109; Yellow Character, 5 cost, 6000 power, Strike, +1000 Counter.[1]
- The card has an activated ability that can trash itself to K.O. an opposing cost 4 or less Character if the player has 2 or fewer Life cards, and the effect also lets the player draw 1 card.[1][4]
- It was illustrated by Nakamaru and belongs to the Four Emperors, Egghead, and Straw Hat Crew trait groups.[1]
- The exact OP07-109 design was later reprinted in One Piece Card The Best Vol.2 (PRB02), which increases availability compared with a single-print chase card.[1]
Collector notes
Condition. Check for whitening on corners and edges, especially the black border and foil-framed areas, plus surface scratches, print lines, centering issues, and any foil scuffs or roller marks on the full-art finish. Full-art One Piece cards are especially sensitive to edge wear and factory surface imperfections, so strong light inspection is important.
Storage. Store the card in a clean penny sleeve and rigid top loader or semi-rigid holder, keep it away from humidity and direct sunlight, and avoid repeated handling because full-art surfaces show fingerprints and micro-scratches easily. For high-value graded candidates, use fresh sleeves and minimal movement in storage.
Authenticity. Verify the correct card number OP07-109, Yellow Character formatting, set branding, and English text consistency. Compare foil pattern, print sharpness, and border saturation against verified examples, since counterfeit One Piece cards often show muddy text, incorrect gloss, or poor alignment. Because this design was reprinted in PRB02, confirm whether the copy is from the original OP07 release or a later reprint by checking set identifiers and collector notes.
