Market outlook
Stable Outlook 7/10
Demand is supported by Pikachu’s evergreen popularity, but the card’s modern, widely opened-set supply limits explosive growth. Prices tend to move with overall Pokémon nostalgia cycles and graded-card sentiment rather than true scarcity.
Next months. Likely to remain range-bound with modest fluctuation, especially for raw copies.
Long term. Likely steady or gradually rising in top grades, while raw copies should stay relatively affordable and liquid.
History
Pikachu is the franchise mascot of Pokémon, first introduced in the original 1996 Pokémon video games and quickly becoming the series’ most recognizable character. Its role as the face of the brand, combined with its long-running popularity in games, anime, and merchandise, makes any anniversary Pikachu card especially significant to collectors.
This Celebrations printing was first released in English in the Pokémon TCG: Celebrations expansion on October 8, 2021. It is a commemorative reprint/homage of Base Set Pikachu artwork by Mitsuhiro Arita.
- Celebrations 005/025 is a special 25th Anniversary commemorative card and uses the classic Base Set Pikachu artwork recreated as a full-card illustration.
- The card is cataloged by major marketplaces as 005/025 and commonly described as a Holo Rare or promo-style anniversary card.
- It is one of the most collected cards from Celebrations because Pikachu is the Pokémon mascot and the card directly references the original era of the TCG.
Collector notes
Condition. Check centering, edge whitening, corner wear, surface scratches, print lines, and holo scuffs. Because this is a mass-produced modern card, pack-fresh copies often still show minor edge/corner issues and visible surface marks under light.
Storage. Store in a penny sleeve and semi-rigid or top loader, keep away from humidity, heat, and sunlight, and avoid repeated handling. For graded-worthy copies, use gloves or clean hands and minimize sliding contact on the holo surface.
Authenticity. Authentic copies should have crisp 2021 Pokémon TCG printing, correct 005/025 numbering, and the proper anniversary holo finish. Fakes often show muddy text, off-color yellow borders, weak holo pattern, incorrect font spacing, or poor edge definition. Compare the card against a verified scan and inspect the back for color balance and borders.
