Market outlook
Stable Outlook 5/10
Vintage Garbage Pail Kids remains a durable niche market, but common cards usually move slowly unless high-grade or tied to notable variation collecting. The IG LOU name version should remain a steady mid-tier collectible rather than a rapid-growth card.
Next months. Likely stable pricing with small fluctuations based on grade and eye appeal.
Long term. Expected to remain a collectible vintage common with modest upside in gem-mint grades, while raw copies should stay accessible.
History
IG LOU is the renamed B-side character for Garbage Pail Kids Series 4 card 158b, originally intended as Crystal Gale. The character is part of Topps’ parody-driven Garbage Pail Kids line, which used gross-out humor and pun-based names to spoof popular culture and collectible stickers. The 158b naming variation is notable because it reflects an early-printing name change that created multiple versions of the same card.
First released in May 1986 as part of Topps Garbage Pail Kids Series 4 (Original Series 4) in the United States.
- Card 158b exists in at least two name versions: Crystal Gale and Ig Lou.
- Series 4 is documented as having four name changes from the initial printing, with 158b among them.
- Collectors often treat Ig Lou as the later/renamed version and Crystal Gale as the earlier version of the same sticker image.

Collector notes
Condition. Check centering, corner whitening, edge wear, surface scratches, and any print defects or sticker residue. This issue is commonly found with light handling wear, and sharp corners plus clean borders matter most for grade-sensitive copies.
Storage. Store in a penny sleeve and rigid top loader or semi-rigid holder, away from moisture, heat, and direct sunlight. Keep with acid-free materials and avoid pressure that can curl or crease the sticker.
Authenticity. Authentic copies should match 1986 Topps Series 4 stock, printing quality, and correct back design. Because name-variation cards exist, verify the exact front name, border style, and that the card matches known Series 4 layouts; unusual gloss, modern paper stock, or off-color printing may indicate reprints or altered pieces.
