Market outlook

Stable Outlook 7/10

Raw values appear to fluctuate with marketplace listings, while graded high-end copies remain the main value driver. Because the card is a beloved character card with a single English printing, demand should stay steady, but large gains are more likely in gem-mint grades than in average raw copies.

Next months. Likely to remain stable to slightly firm, with small moves tied to graded sales and collector demand.

Long term. Likely steady to moderately rising over 1-3 years, especially if high-grade supply remains limited and Dragonite continues to be a core nostalgic chase character.

History

Dragonite is a Generation I Dragon-type Pokémon introduced in the original Pokémon franchise and known as the final evolution of Dragonair. In the TCG, Dragonite has long been treated as a premium fan-favorite dragon card, often printed as a high-rarity chase card because of its popularity, strong Stage 2 profile, and iconic status in the series.

This English Dragonite 5/20 Rare Holo was first released in the Dragon Vault set on October 5, 2012, as part of the Black & White series.

  • This is the Dragon Vault printing, card number 5/20, with Rare Holo rarity.
  • The card was illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita.
  • Dragonite in Dragon Vault is a Stage 2 Pokémon with 150 HP and attacks including Hyper Beam and Hurricane Tail.

Collector notes

Condition. Check for holo scratches, edge whitening, corner wear, centering, and surface dents. Dragon Vault holos can show print lines, especially across the holo area, and pack-fresh copies often still have minor edge or corner wear.

Storage. Use a penny sleeve, then a rigid top loader or semi-rigid holder, and store upright in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and humidity. For graded-value candidates, avoid repeated handling and keep the card in an inner sleeve to reduce holo scratching.

Authenticity. Authentic copies should match the Dragon Vault holo pattern, English text, set numbering 5/20, and correct black-and-white era card stock feel. Watch for blurry text, off-color borders, misaligned holo layers, incorrect font spacing, and suspiciously flat or inconsistent holo sheen; compare the card to known authentic scans and consider professional grading for higher-value copies.
