Market outlook
Stable Outlook 6/10
Modern Illustration Rares usually see early settling after release, then gradual appreciation only if character demand remains strong or sealed supply tightens. Wiglett is collectible, but not among the highest-demand Pokémon from the era.
Next months. Likely to remain range-bound with modest fluctuations tied to grading demand and set nostalgia.
Long term. Expected to see slow, uneven appreciation if preserved high-grade copies remain in demand, but growth should lag top chase cards from the same era.
History
Wiglett is a Pokémon introduced in Generation IX (Pokémon Scarlet and Violet) as a regional-style cave-dwelling Water-type that resembles Diglett but is a distinct species. Its design and Pokédex concept emphasize a long, eel-like body that lives in and around sandy coastal areas, and it became notable as one of the early Paldea-region Pokémon used to showcase the new generation’s ecology and visual style.
First released in the English Scarlet & Violet base set in 2023 as card 206/198, an Illustration Rare full-art holofoil pull from the set’s initial English expansion release.
- This is an Illustration Rare, which places it among the chase sub-rarity cards in the Scarlet & Violet base set.
- The card number associated with Wiglett in the base set is 206/198, not 205/198; 205/198 is Clauncher.
- Wiglett has multiple printings across other sets and languages, but this specific English illustration rare debuted in the Scarlet & Violet base set.

- Collector demand is boosted by the artwork and chase-card status, not by extreme print scarcity.
Collector notes
Condition. Check centering, surface scratching on the holofoil, edge whitening, and corner dings. Full-art Illustration Rares often show print lines, roller marks, and subtle surface scuffs that are easiest to see under angled light.
Storage. Sleeve immediately in a soft inner sleeve, then place in a top loader or card saver for longer-term protection. Store upright in a cool, dry, low-UV environment to reduce warping and edge wear.
Authenticity. Authentic copies should have the standard Pokémon TCG card stock, crisp print detail, proper holofoil behavior, and consistent text/font layout. Fakes often show blurry text, incorrect holo patterns, poor color balance, or wrong card numbering; note that 205/198 is Clauncher, so a Wiglett labeled 205/198 is a major red flag.
